It is not the person who is travelling solo, but it’s our emotions which we express solo — Shivam Pal

One day, one of my friends called me and told me about her trekking plans to Kedarkantha Summit with other friends. I too, got excited and agreed to go with them. But unfortunately, after a few days due to some reasons, they cancelled their plans and except me everyone back out. I still wanted to go because from a long time I didn’t go for any trip. I finally decided for solo travelling. It was my first time, and I was quite nervous. I took a leave for eight days from office and planned to visit Mussoorie, Rishikesh and trekking to Kedarkantha Summit.

For these eight days, I had the freedom to go and stay anywhere. I booked travelling tickets and dormitory beds. I packed my backpack with all the required stuff and get ready to start the journey. The trip was exciting and adventurous. During the trip, I met new people, made new friends and visited new places. It was the time of my life when I was spending every moment exploring something new from outside and inside. It was ultimately an incredible journey. After the trip, I found myself more mature and saw many changes in my perspective.

In the remaining article, I will share my realisation, which I got during the journey. I hope you enjoy the read and get to know something new 😊!

Your dreams should not be dependent on anyone

I realised, if you want to achieve anything in your life, you should be at least capable enough of walking alone on that path. If you are not courageous enough, then don’t dream it. Because you never know when your supporter’s goal gets change and you left with your dreams.

Be courageous and ask people for help but don’t become too dependent on them.

The actuality of fear depends on your belief on it

During the travelling and climbing mountains, I was frightened about unwanted events. I was unsure what next will be going to happen with me, but I faced every situation. I eventually realised fear has no actuality; we derive fear from outside knowledge. And statistically, the reality of fear is very significantly less. It just depends on how much belief we have on them.

If we have no belief in fear, then fear is nothing. But if we believe, then fear seems real.

Don’t fear to get alone! You will get people at all walks of your life

During the trip, I found people eager to share their thoughts and are interested in hanging out with new people. I think it’s just our fear of “not getting people, we can enjoy with”, which do not allow us to go alone. But in reality, people are there with whom you can chill and enjoy. You need to know how to approach them, manage them and enjoy with them, that’s it! During the trip, I also got many others who were travelling solo.

And one more thing, you can never be alone, at least your loneliness will be with you. And loneliness is the best companion if you know how to handle that.

Realised — What is the independence

Independence is not only just about making choices or decisions freely, but it’s more than that. From the word “independence”, I meant to say that don’t be dependent on anyone for your survival. You are not reliant on anyone to satisfy your ego, express your emotions, and get bodily pleasures. You can still survive even there will be no one around you. And how much satisfactorily you survive, is the quality of your character.

I feel independence is the only thing we all aspire to have subconsciously, but in reality, most people are not capable enough of handling it.
